Health and safety

Health and safety is of paramount importance to Colt. We are very proud of our HS&E record and it is our vision to maintain and continual improve on this performance.

Colt holds a number of recognised accreditations including Achilles, CHAS (SSIP) and Worksafe Contractor.

Colt are committed to equipping all employees, through training, to take an active part in delivering this vision.  All Project and Site Managers are trained to CITB Site Management Safety Certificate level, as a minimum.  In addition, staff receive further regular training on individual aspects of safety, including working at height.

Colt e-learning

Colt has created a comprehensive e-learning that uses scenarios of actual incidents, as well as interactive hazard identification exercise to reinforce key message and safe behaviours. The e-learning covers manual handling, working at height and other aspects of workplace safety. It is designed to raise hazard awareness and provide guidance on preventative actions.

Colt engage only those sub-contractors and specialists who have demonstrated competence, adequate resources and a suitable attitude towards Health and Safety.  Regular meetings with the sub-contractors’ are held to reinforce and take action on safety issues.

Environmental

Colt conditions for a sustainable built environment

We believe our products and systems can play an important role in helping to address the global issues of circularity and climate change and we pledge to play our part. Our current focus is on absolute carbon reductions and the use of renewable energy.

Our environmental strategy builds on our achievements, which include notable successes such as:

  • The implementation of an integrated company management system and subsequent certification (ISO 9001, ISO 14001)
  • Improvements to the way we manage, monitor and report on our environmental impacts and increasing our awareness about sustainable construction issues.

Our management system allows for the systematic identification of environmental aspects. We are able identify and assess environmental risks and implement effective control measures to minimise the risk to the environment.

We promote the following sustainable construction good practice at all our construction projects and offices:

  • Waste minimisation and recycling.
  • Energy saving initiatives.
  • Pollution prevention through the safe storage of oils and fuels, using well maintained plant and equipment and where possible using low noise and dust emitting plant.
  • The use of sustainably sourced timber.

Colt wins Health and Safety Award

Colt has received the RoSPA Order of Distinction Award for Occupational Health and Safety performance 2018. This award can only be given to organisations who have won a RoSPA Gold Award for 15 or more years consecutively.
