KeyMed, Southend-on-Sea

The KeyMed Group of Companies employs 1,300 staff at its headquarters in Southend-on-Sea, Essex and subsidiaries in USA, Ireland and Plymouth, Devon.

A subsidiary of the Olympus Corporation, KeyMed is one of the global centres responsible for the development and manufacture of specialised medical and industrial equipment for worldwide distribution.

Colt provided Shadoglass glass louvres and two Colt Braat rooflights for the new Medical Device Manufacture Centre. Colt's products guarantee solar shading while a high daylight level within the building is provided.

The controllable glass louvres on the front façade comprise 7 bays with 4 banks of glass louvres, each approximately 1700mm wide. Each bank is 16 louvres high with each louvre attached to vertical Colt PIA mullions via mirror polished cast stainless steel brackets. The louvres can be moved by a 240V electric motor mounted inside an intermediate PIA mullion so that the mechanisms are totally concealed.

Two rooflights were supplied with the provision for future solar shading incorporated by additional brackets and stiffeners. Each rooflight is approx 15300mm long x 6300 mm wide.
