2UL - Universal Louvre

2UL Universal Louvre is a roll-formed Double Bank Louvre System designed for applications requiring ventilation with a good degree of rain defence. For non- rain defence applications, see 1UL or ESC.

It is available either in deep or shallow section, as a horizontal or vertical louvre, with a wide variety of effects such as perforated or stucco embossed.

It may be combined with other Colt products such as rooflights and glazed facades.

See 3UL for triple bank Universal Louvre, the ultimate in rain defence performance.

How it works

1 Air and rain enters between the louvre blades.

2 Water is transferred to the second louvre where it is collected.

3 Water is transferred along the blades and into the hollow vertical mullion thus preventing re-entrainment, draining the collected water onto the cill.

Options

There are two front louvre profiles:

  • Shallow (50mm pitch)
  • Deep (100mm pitch)

The rear louvre always remains at 50mm pitch.

There are two arrangements:

  • Horizontal
  • Vertical

Both arrangements can also be inverted.

There are three options for the principal components:

  • Aluminium
  • Galvanised Mild Steel
  • Stainless Steel

Perforated, stucco and pre-coated materials are also available and can be used to singular effect (subject to material specification and quantity). Normally applied to the front blades and frames only.

There are many decorative finish options, including:

  • Mill Finish (aluminium)
  • Stoved Polyester Powder Paint
  • Anodised (aluminium)

The applied finishes can be supplied in two coverage levels:

  • Total (all principal components)
  • Partial (front louvres and frames only).

There are a large selection of optional accessories such as:

  • Mitred Corners
  • Blanking Panels
  • Special Shapes
  • Acoustic Modules
  • Guards (bird/ insect*/ security)
  • Doors
  • Turrets

* With Insect Mesh, the design should allow for additional resistance to airflow and reduced flow rate performance.

Performance specification

The louvre system achieves minimum performance coefficients (Cv) of 0.308 (inlet) and 0.25 (extract). These have been established as the result of full-scale wind tunnel tests.

The louvre system achieves the following weathering classification when tested against the EN 13030: 2001 standard (method of test for water rejection performance of louvres subjected to simulated rainfall):

Class A2 - up to 1m/s suction velocity
Class B2 - up to 2.2m/s suction velocity
Class C2 - up to 3.0m/s suction velocity
Class D2 - up to 3.5m/s suction velocity

More details are provided in the leaflet.

Features and benefits

Effective transfer of water within the UL louvre system along the second louvre blade and down within the mullion section.

High airflow performance.

The louvre system is capable of combining both double bank functional louvre and single bank aesthetic louvre with rear blanking panels on the same elevation without any variation in the external profiles.

Corrosion resistant aluminium.

High range of options.

Louvres are not drilled but clipped and not riveted or screwed to structural supporting mullions, to allow for thermal expansion without distortion along their length.
