Product Description

Fixed or controllable fabric covered louvres as an external solar shading system, designed to reduce glare and solar heat gain, for installation at any angle on the building.

The configuration of the system is determined by the building's geometry, the requirements for solar shading, and by the architect. A wide range of fabric types are available depending on the building's functional and aesthetic requirements. The heat and light reflecting fabric louvres are designed to reduce solar radiation, while creating attractive diffused light and maintaining good visibility to the outside.

There are two options available for the Shadotex Membrane Solar Shading System:

Single Skin: Allows view through but has poor glare reduction
Double Skin: No view through but very good glare reduction

Louvres: Lozenge shaped blades of widths of between 300 and 600mm mounted between mullion supports at ***mm centres (max 3000 mm). Blades are mounted at **degrees  (fixed system) to the horizontal and at a pitch of **mm.

Fabric: The fabric is designed to span between the leading and trailing edge extrusions and is designed with high tenacity polyester yarn reinforcement to avoid tearing of the material. The textile will not deform and is fit for use in temperatures ranging from -30°C to +70°C. The material has high colour fastness and a surface texture which avoids dirt sticking to it. The material will have its shading coefficient, light transmission and colour defined by the architect and service engineer.

Supports: All principal non - fabric components are manufactured from aluminium alloy type 6063 T6 to a polyester powder finish to a RAL colour. Fixings are from stainless steel grade A2. Deflection under maximum load of aluminium/ textile fin is limited to 1/200 of span. Deflection of supporting mullion is limited to 1/250 of span.

Support mullion to consist of Colt "PIA" mullion.

For controllable systems:
Actuator: Operation of the louvres is by an externally rated IP65 linear 240V ac stainless steel actuator.

Control of louvres: Louvres shall open to a maximum of 100°.

   Bearings: To be maintenance free.

Structural considerations
(a) Windloads. The complete system to be designed to withstand windloads as described in BS6399 Part 2. The sub-contractor should note that the louvre elements will be subjected to additional aerodynamic effects not covered in BS6399. Appropriate adjustment to the wind pressure coefficients shall be applied having sought appropriate specialist advice.

(b) Accommodation of thermal movement. The works shall accommodate changes in dimension resulting from changes in temperature in any of its part, its supporting bracketry and without any reduction in the performance below the minimum levels required herein. The surface temperature ranges shall be: light colour -20 °C to + 50 °C; dark colour -20°C to + 65 °C.
