Product Description
Fixed or controllable elliptical section external solar shading system, designed to reduce glare and solar heat gain, for installation at any angle on the building.

The configuration of the system is determined by the building's geometry, the requirements for solar shading, and by the architect. A wide range of louvre profiles and finishes are available according to the building's functional and aesthetic requirements. The extruded aluminium fin profiles are designed to reduce direct radiation while maintaining good visibility through windows.

Solarfin comprises extruded hollow sectioned louvres so fashioned as to optimize their weight/ strength ratio.

With controllable systems, the design of the operation of the movable louvres will be to ensure that solar shading is effective whilst daylight entry is optimized.

Fixing
Solarfin is fixed to (select) Steel posts consisting of steel RHS connected to steel beams at roof level and connected to concrete foundations at ground level / Provided with aluminium side plates with bracketry suitable for fixing into curtain walling / onto concrete / onto brickwork / onto steelwork.

Structural considerations
(a) The complete system to be designed to withstand windloads as described in BS6399 Part 2. The sub-contractor should note that the louvre elements will be subjected to additional aerodynamic effects not covered in BS6399. Appropriate adjustment to the wind pressure coefficients shall be applied having sought appropriate specialist advice. The specialist contractor shall show with tender the calculations with details of the aerodynamic amplification factor.

(b) Deflection of the aluminium fin to be limited to span/200. Deflection of supporting steel limited to span/250.

(c) Accommodation of thermal movement. The works shall accommodate changes in dimension resulting from changes in temperature in any of its part, its supporting bracketry and without any reduction in the performance below the minimum levels required herein. The surface temperature ranges shall be: light colour -20 °C to + 50 °C; dark colour -20 °C to + 65 °C.

Dimensions
Eliptical shaped blades are (select) 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 / 350 / 400 / 250mm deep and 34 / 34 / 40 / 50 / 55 / 60mm high mounted between supports at ***mm centres.

Blade pitch and angle
Blades are mounted at a pitch of **mm. Blades are mounted at **degrees to the horizontal (Fixed systems only).

Material
Fins are manufactured from extruded aluminium alloy 6063 T6. Fixings are from stainless steel grade A2.

Finish
(select) Mill aluminium/ polyester powder to a RAL colour/ anodised. Stainless steel components to be self-finished if applicable.

Control methods (movable systems only)
The louvres are moved within a turning range of max. 100° (360° with the Colt PIA mullion integrated control system), by electrical means. A control rod is connected to end plates in such a way as to ensure a smooth mechanical linkage.
