The architect, Mr Jochen Tenter, approached Colt Germany for advice when starting to design and build a new canteen building for Heraeus, one of the largest environmental companies in Frankfurt.
Colt produced an innovative and aesthetic, high efficiently sun shading system with the additional benefits of photovoltaic energy generating cells, which the architect was then happy to recommend to Heraeus.
A Colt Shadovoltaic system was installed, controlled by a CCS 2000 solar control system for sun tracking, incorporating Siemens PV cells with a special coloured screen behind the cells to provide sun shading. A total of 180 modules were installed, with a total power output of nearly 14 kWp.
The North West facade has a glass louvre system laminated with the same colour screen as used on the PV cells for aesthetic purposes.
