Smokemaster smoke curtain

General description

Smokemaster is an automatically operating smoke curtain designed for the channelling or containment of smoke.

The curtain comprises a flexible, heat resistant fabric, which is impervious to smoke and hot gases, wound round a circular tube. The tube contains an electric motor which is normally held retracted at ceiling level, and which unrolls the fabric automatically upon a signal from a fire detection system. A bottom bar is fitted to the bottom edge of the fabric to keep it taut and provide a suitable finish when the smoke curtain is retracted.

Smokemaster smoke curtain is manufactured to the ISO 9000 quality standard.

Versions

  • G version smoke curtain- On loss of power the G (Gravity) Version falls under gravity in a controlled manner to a predetermined level.
  • D version smoke curtain- On receipt of a signal the D (Drive) Version drives down in a controlled manner to a predetermined level. The smoke curtain can also be driven down to an intermediate position, for instance over an escalator, where it is held at that position for some time before descending further.

Configurations and sizes

The Smokemaster smoke curtain is available as single unit, or double horizontal or double vertical units for continuous runs, with overlapped fabric to form a continuous barrier.

Overall smoke curtain lengths for single units are available from 1000 to 4500mm, and drops are available from 500 to 5000mm. A requirement above these dimensions will be met by installing either double horizontal or double vertical units.

Controls

Each control panel can operate a series of smoke curtains. It will generally include a battery back-up which will retain each smoke curtain in its retracted position for a set time period if there is a mains failure.

Certification

The Smokemaster smoke curtain has been tested to and fully meets the requirements of prEN 12101-1 (2003) and BS 7346 Part 3 (1990). It will withstand a temperature of up to 600 °C for 30 minutes and therefore achieves a D30 rating. Smokemaster smoke curtain is also available in a D120 version, following tests to 600 °C for 120 minutes in accordance with prEN 12101-1 (2003). Smokemaster smoke curtain is CE marked.
