Colt has been awarded the complete package associated with the smoke ventilation of the corridors and staircases, in a project valued at over £ 600,000.

Great West Quarter (GWQ), Brentford

Colt is providing a complete smoke control package, including car park ventilation and smoke extraction for Great West Quarter (GWQ), a large urban regeneration development in Brentford by Barratt West London. Due for completion in Summer 2011, the mixed use development comprises 773 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, including both private and affordable homes, shops, restaurants, a health centre, office space and a hotel, all set amongst parks and gardens.

Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth

East Side Plaza is a large residential development in Central Portsmouth adjacent to the Gunwharf Quays shopping centre spread over three blocks. Working with Berkeley Homes, Colt provided a complete smoke control package to protect the accommodation and car park.

National Exhibition Centre

National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham

The specially developed system of horizontal blackout blinds are fully motorised and controlled from a central Colt control panel, with each blind measuring 3.5 m wide and up to 11 m long. Colt Single and Double Bank Universal Louvre provides screening, rain defence and ventilation for air conditioning plant.

Telford College

Telford College, Edinburgh

In July 2006 Telford College moved from its previous three campuses to a custom-built £70 million property at the heart of Edinburgh's Waterfront Development. The new College is one of the largest buildings in the development, which is transforming the skyline and revitalising the culture and economy of North Edinburgh.

Hoxton Hotel, London

The project involved Colt supplying, installing, wiring and commissioning its Colt Shaft for the 205-bedroom, seven-storey Hoxton Hotel in the heart of the City of London. This is the first contract in which Colt Shaft has been specified.

Clerkenwell Hotel

Clerkenwell Hotel, London

Working closely with the Main Contractor, Interior plc, Colt designed a striking rooflight system consisting of a Braat rooflight and Kameleon natural glazed smoke ventilators. The Kameleon ventilators provided both smoke and natural ventilation.

Government records dating back to the eleventh century are now housed in a £34m extension to the Public Record Office in Kew. Designed by Croydon based TBV Consult, the project was completed by Kyle Stewart of London.

Colt has provided a complete smoke control solution as part of a general upgrade at Westfield Shopping Centre in Derby. The project required a great deal of versatility due to the demanding layout of the building and necessity for Colt to refurbish the system while the shopping centre remained open for business.

Paradise Street, Liverpool

Colt has successfully supplied and tested the first ever UK smoke control system for a car park, being built under Chevasse Park at Liverpool One, the UK's largest retail development. With more than 2,000 spaces, split over a massive 56,000m² on four levels, Colt's system proved the most cost-efficient and effective smoke control solution for this massive area.

The first smoke control system of its type in the UK is being installed at the Highcross development in Leicester. Designed as a seamless extension of the existing Shires Shopping Centre, the 100,000 m² mixed-use development will more than double the amount of retail space, transforming the location into one of the UK's leading shopping and leisure destinations.

The Chimes, Uxbridge

This 35,000m² shopping centre was designed by Leslie Jones Architects and Cudd Bentley Partnership for client Capital Shopping Centres plc. Colt worked closely with the Design Team and the contractors Costain Skanska Joint Venture on the design and installation of the smoke ventilation system which consisted of 88 Colt glazed casement Kameleon ventilators and 6 Colt trapezoid shaped, double flap Meteor ventilators.

Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh

Ocean Terminal is a new shopping and leisure complex on Edinburgh's waterfront at Leith, Edinburgh. It comprises a dual level shopping centre with 165 shops, bars, restaurants, cafes and a 10 screen multiplex cinema. Ocean Terminal is at the very heart of the dynamic regeneration of Edinburgh's waterfront. It is also home to one of the country's most popular tourist attractions, the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Touchwood Court

Touchwood Court, Solihull

Designed by Architect BDG McColl for clients Lend Lease, Colt provided Kameleon casement ventilators and Seefire louvred ventilators for smoke ventilation of the malls and specially designed glass louvre ventilators for natural environmental ventilation of the malls. The glass louvres were required to blend into the glazing, yet give a clear open vent area. To achieve this, Colt used a variation on the glass shading system with motors concealed in the mullions.

The Centre's malls and atrium are protected by an OPV controlled smoke control system comprising of 92 Colt Meteor single flap drawbridge ventilators,146 Colt Kameleon natural ventilators and 7 retractable Colt automatic drop Smoke Curtains.

Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh

The Scottish Rugby Union's ambitious redevelopment of the national rugby ground, Murrayfield in Edinburgh, has resulted in the creation of a modern all-seater stadium which provides first class facilities to spectators.

The transformation of Murrayfield was designed by the architects Miller Partnership of Glasgow and London and the roofing contract was completed by Briggs Amasco of Edinburgh.

Colt supplied OPV Seefire ventilators for smoke control and natural ventilation to the main production areas and warehouse area, in addition to Colt Braat and OPV Kameleon ventilators over the entrance atrium. Colt Universal Louvre was installed in the plantroom areas, and pre-coated steel louves into cladding panels. Smoke extract fans and ductwork was installed to the basement service trench and technical basement.

The original specification required the sizes of the smoke ventilators to be equal to 2% of the floor area. It also called for restrictions on ventilator sizes, a high local fusible link temperature, and maximum smoke zone of 1600m² (thus 8 zones would be required).

This 775,000 sq ft (72,000 m²) B & Q Distribution Centre comprises 6 portal bays with plan dimensions of 400m long x 180m wide and a ridge height of approximately 14.5m.

Both in-rack & overhead sprinkler systems have been fitted throughout the building for fire protection.
