Smoke Ventilation - Smoke Extract

Turbine Surface Technology, Nottingham

The Construction Consultants Turner & Townsend required Colt to design a smoke ventilation scheme to protect a large investment in plant and specialist machinery.

The building was naturally sub-divided into three smoke zones with full height compartment walls between each zone, and the requirements for each zone were assessed individually. The client also requested that one of the areas be fitted with day to day comfort ventilation to overcome the high heat gains encountered from the processes.

Colt provided WCO ventilators to provide both smoke ventilation and day to day weathered ventilation, and Seefire ventilators were also fitted to provide low level inlet ventilation. The remaining two smoke zones were fitted with Seefires for smoke ventilation. In the event of a fire all three zones of ventilators open to provide smoke extract and replacement air inlet from the non-fire zones.
