University Library
Portsmouth

University Library, Portsmouth

Since the original Frewen Library in Portsmouth, home of the University's Library, was constructed in the 1970's, student numbers have increased from 7,000 to more than 18,000. Accordingly a new three-storey extension has been built, designed by Architects Penoyre & Prasad, to provide a welcoming environment for teaching and study, as well as to incorporate systems that would reduce energy usage and environmental impact. To this end, Colt provided a combination of natural ventilation and solar shading.

Tanaka Business School, London

When the Imperial College in London asked Foster and Partners to redesign the "black tower" portion of their flagship Tanaka Business School building on Exhibition Road in London, Colt were consulted with regard to the design of a glass louvred veil to conceal the existing concrete structure, whilst allowing daylight penetration to the fenestration behind.

Colt has won the contract to design, manufacture, supply and install a secondary facade of fixed glass louvres as part of the refurbishment works for Muirhead Tower in Birmingham.

BRE Building 16

BRE Building 16, Garston

In the spring of 1991, a group of key companies and interested parties, including BRE and Colt, began formulating a performance specification for the Energy Efficient Office of the Future (EOF) project. The project was launched by BRECSU on behalf of the Department of the Environment, the objective was to identify new technologies and refinements in existing practice required to meet energy and environmental targets that will be in place in the early part of the next century.

Telford College, Edinburgh

In July 2006 Telford College moved from its previous three campuses to a custom-built £70 million property at the heart of Edinburgh's Waterfront Development. The new College is one of the largest buildings in the development, which is transforming the skyline and revitalising the culture and economy of North Edinburgh.

Harefield Academy

Harefield Academy, Uxbridge

The Dry Training Facility at the Harefield Academy is used partly by the Academy and partly by Watford Football Club as an internal football pitch.

Colt installed 32 Seefire roof ventilators, 16 at each end, to provide natural ventilation, connected to a Colt ICS 4-Link control system. This is linked to a wind sensor and temperature sensors, and allows fully automatic control of the internal temperature.

The new Junior School for St Aloysius' was designed by Glasgow based architects Elder and Cannon, and is opposite the existing main school building. The Main Contractor for this project was Lilley Construction.

Attractive, unobtrusive day-to-day ventilation was required for the University of Hertfordshire's new Academy block. Colt supplied 464 Coltlite Natural Glazed Ventilators with manual controls to meet the Architect's specification.
