RIU Hotel

The RIU Plaza London Victoria seamlessly blends modern elegance with a touch of history.

RIU Hotels and Resorts has marked its debut in the UK hospitality scene with the introduction of the Riu Plaza London Victoria. Occupying a prime location at 1 Neathouse Place, just across from Victoria station, the hotel finds its home in a building that once housed a retail outlet and office space. Originally constructed in the 1960s, the 12-floor property underwent significant renovations in the 1990s, with a notable addition being the circular glass tower affectionately known as the "drum." This distinctive architectural feature now serves as the captivating lobby for the hotel, offering guests a unique and stylish entry point. The Riu Plaza London Victoria seamlessly blends modern elegance with a touch of history, providing a luxurious haven for guests in the heart of London.

Colt was asked to design, supply and install variable smoke extract systems to protect two escape stairs and lift lobby areas, as well as providing smoke extract for one extended corridor.

As this was a refurbishment project, there were a number of challenges for our team to consider and overcome, such as routing and installing two smoke shafts through an existing building and ensuring they are well sealed and fire rated. The resulting solution was complex in places and required significant co-ordination.
